There’s a mantra I come back to time and time again and it is that you can’t out supplement a bad diet (or out exercise a bad diet that’s true as well).
Let’s take it one step further, you can’t out supplement a bad diet, lifestyle or a mindset.
What I see time and time again is women taking endless supplements but ignoring the diet part because it’s too hard. Here’s the basic truth- your body likes simplicity. I come back to that time and time again in my coaching practice. Too many supplements, adoptogens etc. and you’re overwhelming your system. What’s more is if your gut isn’t digesting things properly, your are basically wasting your money, because you’re not assimilating them.
Keep it simple.
I love the Mediterranean diet for this reason. It’s easy to shop for, easy to follow and it works!
This “diet” isn’t really a diet at all but a way of life. It improves the function of every single cell in your body. It improves gut health and your gut health also manifests in healthier hormones, balanced hormones, balanced immune system etc. We’re seeing so much research now showing that if gut health is compromised, everything is off, including mental function.
The Mediterranean diet is truly a great health reset, for those used to the more traditional “SAD” diet (standard American diet). If we want to improve our health, and reduce inflammation and improve and increase the absorption of our nutrient dense diet, it comes back to eating the way our ancestors do. I am very much an ancestral nutritionist and I especially see the most benefit in that for women. We need the micronutrients that come from a whole foods, plant heavy diet, filled with good quality fats, fiber and protein. That’s where I start with everyone.
What exactly is a Mediterranean diet? It has its origins in the Mediterranean, where people been eating like this for centuries. Their quality of life and health have been proven to be better compared to many people from other countries because of this diet. It consists of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fish, and plenty of extra-virgin olive oil. In recent years, a Mediterranean diet has been in the spotlight because a lot medical professionals and experts have been extolling the virtues of it. (Read this for must-know facts about the diet, so you can see for yourself why it’s so great).
So if you’re thinking all of this sounds great and you want to get started on the diet, you can begin by incorporating more fresh fruits and vegetables into your diet, ditching red meat and stick to fish and eggs, and swap white bread with whole grain bread. Another big component of the diet is also eating healthy fats such as olive oil. Health suggests you have four to six servings of healthy fats a day–a serving would be a teaspoon of olive oil. That’s where Kosterina comes in: you can enjoy a healthy diet and lifestyle with the help of olive oil. Knowing the sourse of your olive oil is incredibly important. This is a100% authentic, extra-virgin olive oil I use, my clients use, and I love. You will immediately taste, and feel, the difference.
One simple parting tip to remember: shop the perimeter of your grocery store. The Mediterranean diet is the fastest track to improving your health. Everything you do makes a difference. But the baseline is the diet. The supplements are the cherry on top, Save you money and focus on real foods.
