Why Your Weight May Be Emotional

why your weight may be emotional

I find it very interesting that when I am focusing on my weight is often when I feel like I am carrying an extra 5-10 lbs. Then at times when I am just living life, I seem to be naturally in the rhythm of things and my weight is steady, no matter what I eat, as if I am at my bodies goal or set weight. Why is that? It’s likely because when I am in the flow and busy living life, my weight is an afterthought. I eat for nourishment when I am hungry. I eat with friends and my husband and truly enjoy. I stop obsessing over food, thinking about my next meal, or resenting my ever-present sweet tooth.

Thin is not a number on the scale, a size or a waist measurement. Thin is a feeling in your body.

I think when you truly find your groove and you’re happy, everything aligns, including your weight.

Oftentimes when I speak with health coaching clients for are unhappy with their weight, I realize the unhappiness with their physical body is actually a manifestation of their thoughts and feelings.

A desire to lose weight is a sign that we want something to be different in our bodies, but even more so, in our lives.

Guilt, anxiety, resentment, and a feeling of something that just isn’t right about our lives can cause us to carry a substantial amount of “emotional weight.” It could also be a hardship- a tough relationship, concern over a money, a unhappy job, or many of those things.

This is oftentimes why people yo-yo diet. They can find a quick fix, lose a few pounds, only to boomerang back, sometimes gaining even more, binging because of the lack they are feeling.

When we feel lack or unhappiness in our lives what do we do? We overeat, we overdrink, we overmedicate to compensate. To shove down those emotions.

The focus has to be on looking within.  Before you can even begin to work on how to fuel your body properly and truly nourish it.

Emotional weight is difficult. But I promise you can create a life where are making decisions based on what is best for you – in life, and in food when you come from a place of being more emotionally at peace. I am not saying it is easy. But start here: start from a place of being truthful with yourself. Ask yourself. What feels out of alignment. Make a list. When you feel yourself grabbing for a snack out of emotional hunger, not physical hunger, refer back to that list and the plans you are making to change those things that are disrupting the rhythm….the things that are keeping you from your best life. When you start to feel alignment in your life you will start to vibrate at a different frequency. That’s when the magic happens, the universe talks back and gives you what you want.
