My long-time followers know I am all about aging as gracefully and naturally as I can. A combination of a clean diet and lifestyle, and natural enhancements through amazing innovation in skincare, have helped me achieve that goal and I honestly feel like I look better at 46 than I did at 26.
One small enhancement I have wanted to make for some time; I’ve wanted to try lip filler for a while. More so as a subtle boost. The reason is, that when I smile, my upper lip flattens out and disappears around my cupid’s bow. In the last few years, it became a pretty common enhancement. It just seems like everyone has their lips done, am I right? All so often my husband will comment about a full-lipped girl and I just have to point out that they aren’t real (you have to really wonder what is these days).
But to this day, I have been scared to move forward with any kind of enhancement involving filler. My trepidation comes down to two things – my desire to have a more “natural” look and that I feel like starting injections is a slippery slope. We all know all too many women who are addicted! I have also experienced side effects from a few different procedures (chemical peels, and my first botox experience gone awry). Read about that here.
By the way, I fully realize my decision to go “filler free,” is a controversial one and I say “do you”. I am not here to judge anyone. I simply am doing what is right for me, in finding natural alternatives right now at this stage of my life and who knows if that may change in the future.
So when Ourself launched its hero Lip Filler, I was so excited to try it. To be honest, I saw it being promoted by other influencers, Erin Foster and Kyle Richards come to mind, and it looked sooo good.
Before I dive into what it is. and my experience, let’s recap what lip-plumping products I have tried, in an effort to feel more confident:
- Lawless Forget The Filler Overnight Mask felt like a nice smoothing lip treatment but. I didn’t notice a plumping effect
- Lawless Forget the Filler Lip Gloss is everyone’s fav but I found the effect barely noticeable
- TooFaced Lip Injection (various products) is my fav, I loved the insane tingle and I feel like it made my lips more colorful naturally and filled in the little lines with a little moisture. My fav is the Maximum Plump Extra Strength Lip Plumper
- Dior Addict Lip Maximizer worked very similar to Lawless gloss, barely noticeable
- Augustinus Bader The Lip Balm – this one felt soothing and made my lips look smoother, but no plump
- IS Clinical lip duo, pricey and didn’t do much
- Buxom Full-On Plumping Lip Polish Gloss, again similar to the Dior or Lawless
- Dr. Lara Devgan Scientific Beauty Platinum Lip Plump, of all the products I reviewed I’d say this is the best, but it only slightly noticeably improved my lips
These products pretty much all worked the same; a slight tingle and plump effect, barely noticeable effects, that wore off quickly.
So who is Ourself?
The missing link between in-office cosmetic procedures and at-home topical treatments has always seemed nearly insurmountable when it comes to beauty. Ourself, a new biotech skincare brand, is aiming to change that.
Launched in February 2022, Ourself’s product lineup combines effective formulas and patent-pending delivery systems to fill a gap in the beauty market: the void between what at-home anti-aging products promise and what they actually deliver. The ultimate goal? To develop effective formulas and an innovative delivery system that empower people to age with confidence.
“With Ourself, we are defining a completely new category, subtopical skincare, that bridges the gap between these two extremes and gives consumers the ability to achieve controllable clinical-level results from their own homes”
Lauren Otsuki and Vimla Black-Gupta, Ourself’s co-founders
Essentially, Ourself is offering “an alternative to more invasive cosmetic procedures and allows us to look and feel like the best version of ourselves,” per Otsuki and Black-Gupta.
The Lip Filler
Ourself’s Lip Filler bridges the gap between topical and procedural thanks to hyaluronic acid and subtopical delivery technology. Ourself’s patent-pending subtopical delivery technology encapsulates the hyaluronic acid molecules into different sizes and delivers to layer of skin where they’re needed most. The combination means a plumping lip treatment with long-term effects.
For the Lip Filler in particular, the co-founders decided to address the need for at-home topical treatments that were effective in all the best ways, yielding “controllable, natural-looking results.”
I tried other temporary plumpers and in my experience, the difference with Ourself’s Lip Filler is that this is a treatment with both immediate and long-term benefits. Created by a team of biotech and medical aesthetic experts, Ourself’s patent-pending subtopical delivery technology encapsulates the hyaluronic acid molecules into different sizes and delivers to the layers of skin where they’re needed most. The combination means a plumping lip treatment with long-term effects
“Needle-free lip plumping is absolutely possible,” says celebrity facialist Candace Marino, whose client roster includes Dove Cameron, Grimes, and Miranda Kerr. It’s a matter of keeping lips plump and youthful.
How does it feel?
When I first apply it, I do feel a slight tingling, but like any other skincare product, it takes time for noticeable change. I really started to notice a better pout after two weeks of twice-daily use.
The $145 price point may be a turn off for some but as compared with $500-$1200 for lip filler, which must be repeated every 3-6 months, it’s a no brainer. It’s a natural product that is effective and that you cna feel really good about.
My experience
I have been using Ourself’s treatment for a month and I’m so happy with the results, It really gives professional-grade lip filler a run. Read more about the technology behind Lip Filler at Ourself on their site. You can pair it with Ourself’s Lip Conditioner ($45) to nourish the lips and restore moisture which is such a nice combination. I am beyond excited to try other products from the line.
